How can I shorten a car steering rack for a buggy project?

I want to use a car steering rack on an off road buggy im building. Can I shorten one form a car to work ok? If so does anyonke have any more info on how I can do this. Im handy with a welder and grinder

You cant shorten the steering rack, but you can shorten the track rods.

Take an equal amount off the end of each track rod, so you end with the length you require. Re-tap the thread and refit the track rod ends.

Don’t forget that the length you want will be measured from the end of the track rod ball joints when fitted. Don’t cut too short. Think about it first.!
