How to deal with a colleague trying to slander your reputation?

Recently got called into the bosses office and told i had had a complaint leveled at me by two people. One who i had a discussion with who took offense at what i said – on the phone. Another person (i believe the first person had called and gossiped about what i said). This person was not in the office/building or suburb at the time. I believe this second person who is a known staff splitter and has undermined me in the past, is lying. What do i to do to avoid this person although i have to work with this person closely?

The best way to go about this is to be as professionally cordial around your colleagues and refrain from discussing anything non-work related.
Brush up on your phone mannerisms, and just do your job the best of your capabilities. You want to prove a point that you are good at your job and that there aren’t any reasons or ‘proof’ of you doing otherwise.
