Special Olympics celebrates 40 t h year
Longtime competitors return to games at Towson University. Billy Church, 49, a participant in the Maryland Special Olympics since volunteers began organizing the games in 1970, is marking the 40the milestone of the games in his usual way. He is playing in them. Church, above, was 9 when he first entered the state’s first Special Olympics and hasn’t missed a year since.
