How To Yarn Over Purl

Manhattan, New York – October 30, 2007 – The Lion Brand Yarn Company today released the results of an in-depth study conducted recently on the line, weaving and crochet enthusiasts. The results were published through the Lion Brand podcast which can be heard through his new site "Yarncraft" Web in: yarncraft.lionbrand.com. The survey results describe a vibrant and growing community of expertise in technology, the fans who are using the Internet to build and enrich their passion for yarn crafts.
The results of the Lion Brand survey are in line with a recent Pew Internet report from the fans online, which found that 83% of online Americans have used the Internet to pursue their hobbies. One in three respondents said Leon Brand that in turn to blogs for information about knitting and crochet, while one in four information from knitting podcasts.
Brand survey Leon also found that 52.7% of survey respondents read blogs, while 50.4% listen to podcasts. This exceeds the most recent Pew Internet and American Life Project figures that show that 39% of Americans read blogs and only 12% download podcasts.
The survey also found that the artisans of yarn on-line are a very social group, with 35.6% of respondents saying they were members of Myspace, with members of Facebook and Flickr are the second and third. A result very striking about the survey is that 1 in 4 of response had already joined Ravelry.com. Ravelry is weaving a new social network which launched in May 2007 and is still in beta. The site already has 21,000 members today with an additional 15,000 in its waiting list.
"The Internet has allowed weavers to come out of the closet. Said Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, author and editor of the blog "Yarn Harlot '." We've become socialized as knitting has become a public social activity rather than a private one. The Internet has created a knitting community – and while you can get away from the projects, not away from people, so that the community continues to grow. "
Blogs are also a large part of the survey results. "Yarn Harlot" was included as the most popular blog of Lion Brand customers, with "Crazy Aunt Purl" and "Mason Dixon Knitting", coming in second and third. Lion Brand customers also selected "Lime and Violet" "The Deal" and "Stash and Burn" among their favorite podcasts.
"It's exciting times when this ancient craft of knitting and crocheting is having a resurgence thanks to the technology of the 21st century. "Said David Blumenthal, CEO of Lion Brand Yarn." We are working with the community online, knitted or crocheted, giving the latest information from Lion Brand, while hearing from them through their blogs, podcasts and emails. It's very exciting to know that we hear and can hear us – We are looking forward to hearing from consumers. "
