Hello, Could anyone tell me what size crochet, needle and thread?

Hello, Could anyone tell me what size crochet, knitting needle and yarn to buy to make a simple scarf. Level of difficulty: beginner with no experience. I have joined a class that starts in the last week of November. The catalog says the university "that students must bring their own crochet, knitting needles and yarn for the first day of the i class.Since have no idea about this, I decided to post my question. Thanks for your time and response.:)

Well why not call the university and ask if I can not say for a cheap set with F, G, H, I, J, K, which is sufficient and buy some normal weight worsted yarn in a couple of different colors.Then is covered for everything you need for a beginner to learn and use.
