Emo is a broad title that covers a lot of different styles of emotionally charged punk rock and unfortunately most people have a horribly limited idea what is emo, just because most of the relevant records in the development of emo were largely released in small quantities and with limited distribution. These were however very influential, and remains its effects can be seen today. There are a lot of kids who listen to the third and fourth generation of styles emo without even knowing it.

The mass of "emo" bands could be divided into several distinct genera. Let us exploit the different phase of "emo" bands.

1. The first phase-"emocore" style began in 1984/85 and going strong, over the years. In the beginning, these groups consisted mainly of people who played in hardcore punk bands, exhausted in its limited way, and turn to a guitar-oriented, midtempo rock based sound with the voice of emotional punk.

2. The second phase – "emo" style began in 1987/88. One of the most recognizable and universal elements of emo is manifested in the sound of the guitar of this style: the octave chord, which allows a high-pitched, driving urgency and a rich texture. The vocal style is generally much more intense than emocore, ranging from normal singing in a quiet sort of a letter from the real howling, sobbing and crying. Lyrics inclined to somewhat abstract poetry, and are generally low in the mixture and difficult to trace.

3. Phase three: "hardcore emo" began in San Diego in 1991 with the heroin was similar to punk – faster, stronger, louder, more intense and determined. Most of these bands played very fast, and introduce the "chaos" concept of hardcore. Guitars are distorted to the point that the notes and chords are hard to recognize.

4. Phase Four: "post-emo indie rock" and "post-post-hardcore emo musically leans a lot of strong interaction between the soft, but a lot of voices sung quietly and very little screaming or hardness.

5. Fifth stage: "post-hardcore emo, emo bands were again using ultra-heavy, ultra-fast attack noise wall blends elements of Grind Core and Neurosis chaos apocalyptic style with bleeding-vocal screaming.

The intensity of emo's voice has also been influential in the non-emo style, too. However now been discovered that some bands have amalgamated some diverse emo influences giving a new style. "Screamo" is the result of amalgamation is being played by some new bands often used by younger fans.
