How would i text from a computer?

My phone has a problem, and i sent it to the store. Now, i can’t text my friend. Is there a way I can text from the computer where i enter the message from keyboard? Also, is there a certain program that lets you set a caller ID so that my friend knows that it’s me? Thanks guys, any extra info will be really helpful. ;D
