Cell phone vs. Store Security Scanners at Entrance: Stops working?

First time I visited TARGET with Motorola Tracphone in pocket. Display was totally balnk afterwards, phone unuseable. No display at all except for showing battery fully charged. Called Safelink Tracphone and somehow they got phone going again. Works perfectly.

Only thing I did was ENTER and LEAVE Target Store.
With Tracphone in pocket.

From now on I willl leave phone in car.

Has anyone else had this problem? Cell phone does not work after passing in and out of store entrance?

I am elderly retired but with electronics experience. Baffling scenario though. One would think if this happens to my phone, it must be happening with others, but I am very low on cell phone electronics expertise.

Any ideas from cell phone experts?

Baffles me too.

Those security tag scanner loops do use RF but the power and frequencies used have to be within certain limits to be FCC compliant. I don’t think that Target or any retailler would sell many cell phones if they were crippled on the way out the door. I’d give Tracphone another call for an explanation of what they did to recover the display functionality.
