What is the role of religion in society?

What do you think the purpose of religion is? How does it impact people in society? How does it affect a society? How does it help? How does it create problems ect.

It provides a certain amount of mental solace. Everyone needs something to get them through the day, and if your religion does that for you then it’s a good thing. On the other side, it can also create a lot of prejudice and close-minded thinking. There’s nothing that frustrates me more than someone who uses a religion that’s supposed to be based on love and forgiveness as a tool for judging others.
