how do you go about getting your name legally changed?

my first name is one of the most popular girls names there is, and my last name is the most popular surname in america. i know nine girls with my name (no kidding) and im very tired of it. im about to be 18, and going to community college for two years before transferring to another school. i would liek to have my name changed before i transfer so i can have a fresh start. so how do i do this?

As an advanced student in the educational system, you re certainly aware of large book stores such as Borders, Barnes and Noble and others.

Go to your favorite bookstore and in the aisle of law books, you will find several alternatives to select from in the area of Do it Yourself Name Change. I personally prefer books published by NOLO PRESS.

These books will provide you the step by step process (and sometimes the actual State Court forms) to change your name.

Name change requirements are minimal. Your new identity is not being used to avoid creditors….The name does not intentionally confuse your identity with another individual….Your new identity is not going to be used to defraud anyone.

Many Courts have pre-printed forms needing only your filling in the blanks to accomplish this purpose. Go to your local court and ask the Court clerk if that Court uses pre-printed forms OR ASK for a photocopy of anothers name change request.
