Social bookmarking is a method for internet users to share, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web resources. In a social bookmarking system, users save links to websites that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, and can be saved privately, shared only with specified people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of public and private domains. The allowed people can usually view these bookmarks chronologically, by category or tags, or via a search engine.

Bookmarking is a common form of advertisement for business owners to use to get the word out about their products. There are many benefits. Some are as follows:

• People can find a website that has not yet been indexed by the search engines.

• Bookmarking creates more links back to the websites, which results in more search engine recognition.

• Generate traffic through the use of communication to the communities of the sites.

There are some disadvantages:

• Some people only use social bookmarking as a tool to promote themselves or their business opportunities.

• More and more spammers are using social bookmarking to get more attention to their websites.

Social bookmarking is overall a great to get traffic to a website, and if used properly, sales to any business. Getting traffic is vital to the life of any website. This type of marketing is a great way to get your website noticed not only by the search engines, but by the people in the communities also. So give it a try, be consistent, and you will see results.
