Blogs How To Start One
Want to make a website, no clue where to start?
Me and a friend are always on the computer checking out blogs and using sites like facebook. We both just got out of longterm relationships and to keep our minds off it we decided that we should take up a hobby or something. Then we got the bright idea to make our own website. Now the only question is, where to start? Coming up with an idea for our website shouldn’t be too hard, but what we would like to know is, how do we go about starting one?
Thank you
Hey R Kelli,
If you want a website that easy to create, cheap and has tons of features then I recommend creating a blog style website by using WordPress. Don’t worry it’s a free script.
All you need is a hosting account and a domain name. You can get a domain name at Godaddy for around $10 for a .com domain name.
You can get a hosting account at Hostgator (I personally use them) which only charges less than $10 a month, plus you can host unlimited sites on your account. So basically it will cost you $20 to setup and $10/month after that.
Now, all you need to do is install WordPress. Don’t worry it’s very easy, especially if you use a hosting company like Hostgator that offers a feature called fantastico. Basically, this a script installer. It’s made for beginners.
All you have to do is tell fantastico where to install the script and it will do it for you. Now all you have to do is pick a design theme for you site and you’re ready to go. You can literally find thousand and thousands of themes for free by typing in “free WordPress themes” into Google or Yahoo.
Not only that, but you can also search for “free WordPress tutorials”. There’s hundreds of free tutorials and videos on WordPress.
With WordPress, you can have a site up in no time. Plus WordPress has thousands of free plugins. Plugins are basically features that you can add to your site for free.
Now, you could create your own site by hand, but it can come with a ton of headaches. Trust me, I know because I build sites everyday and it’s not always fun. With WordPress, not only is it free and easy, but the search engines also love WordPress when trying to get ranked in the search engines.
If you’re really interested in getting a site up that is yours and that you have complete control, don’t go with any free website services. Because, it’s ran on their servers and they can delete or setup rules on how you’re able to use your site.
Hope this helps,
Brian
