America States How Many
How many states in america has a city named bristol?
The most official source for this kind of question is the Geographic Names Information Server (GNIS, see link below). If you ask for “Bristol” as the feature name and a type of “Populated Place”, it returns 40 places. Eleven of them are not named Bristol now – it may have been a former name. There are two states (Louisiana and Ohio) that have two Bristols each. So the twenty-seven states that have one or more cities, towns, or villages named Bristol are: CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, LA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, NH, NV, NY, OH, PA, RI, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WA, WI, and WV.
Note: the Bristols in Tennessee and Virginia are right next to each other at the state line. Some people would consider that a single city in two states, but they do have separate city governments (see second link).
Probably most of those Bristols were named for another Bristol, eventually tracing back to Bristol on the west coast of England.
